Today, Tartu Song Festival's Chief Committee chose Kristel Tannik as Director of the 2009 festival.

The newly-appointed director sees establishment of organizing working parties as her first task. The roof organization for their work is Tiigi Community Centre.

Mayor of Tartu and Chairman of the Chief Committee Urmas Kruuse mentioned Kristel Tannik's experience in organizing various song festivals and other events as the reason for the choice.

Kristel Tannik has belonged to organizing teams of all song and dance festivals taken place in Tartu during last twelve years and was the marketing manager of the Students Song and Dance Festival Gaudeamus in 2006.

Urmas Kruuse considers continuity to be the most important aspect of Tartu Song Festival. "We would like to see singers of all ages coming to the celebration, including a lot of young people whose active involvement would give confidence in the sustainability of song festivals", he added.

In April, the Chief Committee of Tartu Song Festival chose Alo Ritsing as the Artistic Director of the event.
