Tartu Song Festival's Chief Committee approved the festival's directorial vision

Press statement 14.08.2008

Tartu Song Festival's Chief Committee came together for their forth meeting today. The agenda included summarizing the song festival logo competition, draft budget of the festival and overview of the Artistic Committee's work.
The application for funding the song festival will be lodged with Tartu City Government by 15 August. The budget has been prepared based on actual price offers and an intention to find cover for all costs via support from public sector, various foundations and private sector.
Song Festival's Artistic Director Alo Ritsing gave an overview of the repertoire of the song festival concert and of the concert on the evening before that. 41 songs will be performed at the festival concert, half of which differ from the All-Estonian Song Celebration's repertoire. Each choir type will sing three songs, the conductors of which have also been decided. All dance arrangements of the festival concert will be new and performed for the first time.
The festival's Stage Director Jaanus Randma spoke about the ideas behind the concert's directorial design. The aim is to bind together old and young generations, runic singing and choral singing, the past and the present. He said: "Tartu Song Festival should be a symbol of Tartu that expresses the will to bring together different generations. It has to create unforgettable moments to pass on to future generations".
Chairman of the Chief Committee, Mayor of Tartu Urmas Kruuse expressed satisfaction with the clearly distinct nature of the repertoire and direction compared to the coming Song Celebration in Tallinn and approved the proposed organizational ideas.
