Registration for Tartu Song Festival open until 1 November

Press statement 20.10.2008

As of today, 46 groups with almost 2,000 participants have registered for Tartu Song Festival on 13 June. Considering the number of groups in Tartu and Tartu County, we expect a total of over 6,000 to register.

The celebration awaits female choirs, male choirs, mixed choirs, children's choirs, boys' choirs, toddlers' choirs, kindergarten choirs (1st time in Estonian song festival history), wind bands and folk dancers. Registration is open until 1 November and the application sheets are available on Tiigi Community Centre's webpage http://tartu.ee/rahvakultuur/.
Additional information on registration: Liidia Konsa, (+372) 7361 563, [email protected]. Tartu Song Festival's website will open next year. Until then general information and repertoire can be found from Tiigi Community Centre's page.
Bearing in mind that the number of singers registered for participation in the Song Celebration taking place in early July in Tallinn is bigger than that festival's final participants' number by almost 20,000 people, we encourage all groups in Tartu and Tartu County to register for our event. The competition for Tallinn is especially hard for children's choirs – only 3,000 of the registered 8,000 children will be able to go on stage. Tartu Song Festival will accept all choirs from Tartu and Tartu County who are able to perform the programme.
We have invited additional male, female and boys' choirs from Tallinn and Narva in the interest of stronger overall sound of those choir types. The repertoire includes 41 songs, half of which are different from the programme of Tallinn's Song Celebration.
