Even though a decision was made after the first big song festival that similar events were going to be organised every five years, the permission for the next one was obtained from the government after a great delay. The second song festival was held ten years after the first one. The chief conductors at the festival were David Otto Wirkhaus and Karl August Hermann. The programme that consisted mainly of songs written by German authors also included six original songs by A. Kunileid-Saebelmann, K. A. Hermann and J. V. Jannsen. Only male choirs and brass orchestras performed also at this festival.
