The song festival held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the abolishment of serfdom in Estonia was the last one organised in Tartu and all nationwide song festivals thereafter have been held in Tallinn. The works of Estonian composers dominated the programme. Estonian choirs from far-away Russian provinces participated for the first time. Concerts of Estonian soloists also took place for the first time.
