The tenth nationwide song festival was a jubilee in festival history: special coins and stamps were issued and concerts and theatre performances were organised to celebrate. The term for special and mixed choirs came into use and the repertoire was differentiated accordingly. Female choirs performed as a separate choir type for the first time. The new technological achievement of the day was included in festival preparations: performances of the best Tallinn choirs were broadcast.
